Role
Art Director & UX/UI Designer
Challenge
Redesign a content-heavy, outdated housing website for the University of Chicago that was difficult to navigate and maintain. The original site lacked visual hierarchy, mobile usability, and flexibility for internal teams to update content. The project required balancing a cleaner, more user-friendly design with the realities of limited imagery, complex page lengths, and multiple rounds of feedback from stakeholders.
Solution
I developed a set of bold, modular concepts that brought clarity and usability to the forefront—grounded in the creative brief and tailored to a world-class academic institution. The visual direction used strong CTA colors, modular layouts, and simplified navigation. I also accounted for long-format content, particularly on mobile, with scannable sections and a flexible page structure. As the project progressed, I collaborated with internal teams to adapt the designs based on available assets and feedback, while preserving core UX principles.
Outcome
While some of the original visual elements were softened or adjusted during implementation, the final site represents a major leap forward in usability, content clarity, and design professionalism. It enables staff to update content more easily and provides students and families with a much clearer path to the information they need. The redesign successfully aligns with the university’s standards and offers a scalable foundation for the future.
