USA Today insert + patient brochures

Role
Art Director & Production Designer

Challenge
Design an engaging 8-page USA Today print insert that needed to accommodate 11 pages worth of content—without sacrificing readability or visual appeal. In addition, create the first in a series of patient brochures focused on neurological conditions, starting with Parkinson’s disease, all within the constraints of a limited stock photography budget.

Solution
I approached the insert with a strong editorial layout strategy, using smart typographic hierarchy, white space, and modular design to fit all required content while keeping the piece approachable and visually compelling. For the Parkinson’s brochure, I used detailed photo retouching and creative cropping to elevate stock imagery, ensuring the visuals felt thoughtful and high quality. This piece set the tone and design direction for future brochures in the brain disease series.

Outcome
The USA Today insert delivered a polished, publication-style experience that maximized space without overwhelming the reader. The Parkinson’s brochure launched a cohesive, patient-friendly educational series, demonstrating how thoughtful design and resourceful image work can overcome creative limitations and support clear, compassionate communication.
